The LAT Recreational Program offers fun classes for all ages, and is designed to inspire a love of dance and creative process, as well as to increase coordination, strength and flexibility. The program is specifically designed for dancers to progress for many years; all LAT students who advance to higher levels begin in one of our Recreation Program classes. Kinder Dance and Elementary Dance classes are considered our gateway classes for students who aspire to more advanced training in the LATitude Program.
The studio offers weekly classes for children as young as 2½ (toilet-trained and separated) through to adults, and our popular Saturday class schedule is designed for busy families. Conveniently located in the heart of Monkland village, there are many shops just steps away from the studio, including a café, bakery, natural health store, Italian restaurant, dry cleaner and others.
Early Dance Class
An early exploration of dance designed for toilet-trained and separated toddlers. Students learn simple ballet stretches, positions and balances by following the teacher. Gross-motor skills are developed as the children learn to march, gallop, and skip around a circle. At the end of each class, dancers improvise with colourful scarves, fostering self-confidence and creativity.

Adult Beginner / Intermediate Ballet
This class is for beginners who have no previous ballet experience or those who are renewing their love of dance. It also serves as a warm-up for those intermediate dancers who will continue the next hour’s class: Ballet Centre & Choreography. Our experienced, professional teachers ensure that dancers are challenged, develop strong foundational technique, and improve their physical conditioning, enabling them to enjoy dance for decades to come.
Tuesdays 7:15 p.m.
Adult Intermediate Ballet: Centre & Choreography
Offered immediately after the mandatory Barre warm-up (7:15-8:15), this by-invitation-only class is designed for more advanced adult ballet dancers. It is a perfect class for someone who danced seriously in the past and wishes to renew their love of dance. Intermediate students learn centre and choreography, practicing more advanced skills such as pirouettes, Adagios, leaps and turns on the diagonal, etc. In the last half of this class dancers learn a new, fun, creative choreography to explore one’s movement memory. A great way to spend two hours on a Tuesday evening!
